Earthquake damages Washington monument: The National Park Service says the engineers have found a crack at the top of the Washington Monument presumably caused by magnitude-5.8 earthquake shook the eastern coast.

The monument is a high profile structure to suffer damage, perhaps because it is also the highest: 555 metre near the White House. It is also the world’s tallest stone structure. Other nearby monuments, such as the Jefferson Memorial and Lincoln Memorial will be open again on Tuesday a brief shutdown of the damage assessment.
